My first week!
Bon dia!
Hace unos cuantos dias que no escribo, pero he estado haciendo mil cosas, así que tengo excusa.
Bueno os haré un resumen rapido de estos dias.
Dije que el miércoles empezaba a hacer medidas verdad? pues estamos a lunes y aún no he empezado, cosas de experimental. Hemos estado mirando las medidas que hacíamos y todas salían mal, hoy hemos descubierto que era lo que pasaba y, en principio, mañana empiezo!
Pero a lo que iba, el miercoles basicamente me enseñaron teoria por un tubo (me he comprado una libreta y lo voy apuntando todo ahí, porqué me conozco mi memoria) y me enseñaron a fondo los laboratorios y los aparatos con los que he de trabajar. El grupo de trabajo me encanta, me han acogido super bien y como soy la más joven me cuidan un montón.
El jueves por la noche me invitaron a la barbacoa del departamento, y fue una pasada. Cada uno traía algo de comida y fuimos a una zona de barbacoa con cesped. Estuvimos jugando a futbol, hablando, haciendo el idiota, fue muy divertido. He tenido mucha suerte con el grupo que me ha tocado.
A todo esto, se supone que yo el jueves estaba nerviosa porqué cada viernes tenemos reunión de grupo y a mi me tocaba exponer lo que llevaba hecho de mi tfg (trabajo de final de grado), un trabajo que no está acabado y del que no me he leído nada aún de bilbiografia, resumiendo que yo tenia poca idea y lo tenia que explicar delante de un grupo de expertos.
Visto así tiene toda la pinta de desastre, pero no lo fue tanto, me hicieron algunas preguntas de las que no tenia ni idea pero no fue tan mal. Ahora la reunión larguísima, 4 horas (mi presentación fueron escaso 10 minutos).
Después de la reunión como ya eran las 17:30 de la tarde empezó mi fin de semana!
Me fui con un amigo del trabajo al rio de Ginebra a bañarnos que habia quedado con unos amigos suyos, una pasada ese rinconcito, si no te lo enseñan no lo descubres. Después fuimos a cenar y a tomar algo, nos echaron del bar a la 1:30, no está mal.
Al dia siguiente a las 10 iba de excursión a visitar el detector del CMS, que se llama así porqué se caracteriza por tener una cámara de muones muy compacta. Nos enseñaron todas las salas (sala de control, sala donde estan los triggers, etc) menos, evidentemente, la del detector. Esa solo se puede ver cuando paran el acelerador porque la radiación es muy intensa. El detector lo paran hacia diciembre (porqué la luz sube de precio y no se lo pueden permitir) y se puede visitar hacia finales de enero principios de febrero. En marzo más o menos lo vuelven a poner en marcha.
Después fuimos a comer, y luego fui a hacer una partida de laser tag, fue muy divertido pero un desastre, ninguno habiamos jugado antes y necesitabamos dispararnos casi a quemaropa para acertar. Salimos de allí tan sudados que fuimos directos a la playa. El lago es tan grande que cada pueblecito tiene un playa, así que hay mil calitas a las que ir, y son todas preciosas, de hecho si no hay nubes, des de la playa se puede ver el Mont Blanc.
Por la noche fuimos a cenar a las fiestas de Ginebra y a un concierto que había. Vimos los fuegos (prácticamente hay fuegos cada dia y son una pasada).
El domingo, hice el dominguero, me levanté tarde y fui hacia el mediodia con un amigo al lago. Fuimos en canoa hasta una playa que había cerca, y en definitiva, nos pasamos el dia allí.
Hoy he ido al CERN en bus, ha sido toda una aventura, sobretodo para comprar el billete, pero lo he conseguido. A la vuelta he venido en bici (si! me he comprado una bici) y mejor, porqué he ido por los caminitos que atraviesan el campo y son chulisimos.
Hoy no había mucho que hacer porqué aún estabamos averiguando que era lo que fallaba, así que básicamente he estado leyendo papers y analizando datos de mi tfg. Por la tarde hemosdescubierto cual era el problema y mañana lo solucionaremos. Me van a enseñar a desmontar y montar detectores en chips!!w
Y esta tarde ha venido la gran aventura, he ido a comprar yo sola al Carrefour. Casi me pierdo, madre mia que agobio. Mucha gente, muchas cosas para comprar y yo sin lista de la compra, esto no me vuelve a pasar. Me he recorrido todos y cada uno de los pasillos, hasta los de comida de perro, por si había algo escondido que necesitase (nunca he entendido la organización de los supermercados). Pero lo he conseguido, he comprado, y además creo que justamente lo que necesitaba, así que otra prueba superada.
Por la noche me he hecho yo la cena y todo bien también, si que es verdad que era pasta y no tiene mucho misterio, pero bueno no hay que subestimar ninguna comida.
Y bueno hasta aquí mi primera semana, de momento estoy encantada, espero que siga así

It's been a long time since I've written, but I have been doing lots of things, so it is used as excuse.
I will resume these days in a few lines, I hope.
I told you that I have to start mesure on Wednesday, did not? Today is Monday and i haven't started yet, experimental problems. We have been looking for why all the measurements we have done were wrong, and today we have discovered it, so if all it's okay, I will start tomorrow!
Well, Wednesday basically, they teach me a lot of theory (I have bought a notebook and I write down all the knowledge there, because I know my memorie is so bad) and they show me deeply the labs and the machines I will use. I love my group of work, everybody treated me well from the beginning, i think that's because I'm the youngest.
On Thursday afternoon I went to the department barbacue, it was awesome. Everybody brougth some food and then we shared, we were at a bbq zone, so we played football, we talked, we acted as fools, it was very fun. I'm so lucky of being in this group.
All over this, I had to be nervous, because on Fryday I have to do a presentation about my bachelor thesis, which is not finished yet, I haven't read anything of theory, so I had not much idea and I had to explain it in front of experts.
In these terms, everybody expects that it was a disaster, but it wasn't so much, they asked me lots of questions, some of them I could response, some not. But the meeting was so long, 4 hours (mi presentation only takes 10 minutes).
After this meeting was 5:30pm so then my weekend started!
I went with a colleague to the river at Geneva, there was awesome, I mean is so hidden. if anyone tells you it's impossible to find. After all we went dineer and go out for a while, the pub close at 1:30, not so bad.
On saturday, I went on a excursion at 10, I visited CMS (compact muon soleoid), We visited all the rooms (control room, trigger room, etc) expect, obviously, the detector room. This room is only avalaible for humans when the accelerator is not working, because the radiation is so intense. The accelerator stops at December (because the price of light is expensive) and the detector room can be vsited from the end of January until the beginning of February. At March it starts working again.
After this, we went lunch and then we went to play laser tag, it was so funny but also a disaster, anyone of us have played before so we have to shot ourselves at 1mm of distance to hit someone.
When we finished we were so sweaty that we went to the beach. The Leman lake is so big that in each village there's a beach, so there's a lot to choose, and they are very beautiful. In fact, if there are no clouds it is possible to see Mont Blanc from the beach.
At night we went to Geneva's festival, to one of the concerts around the city. We saw the fireworks, again (there are fireworks each night, and they are amazing).
On Sunday I spent the whole day in the lake with a friend. We went with the canoe trough the lake, it was ver funny.
Today I have gone to CERN by bus, it has been an adventure, mainly when I bought the ticket, but I have got it, so I could arrive. For coming home I ride a bike (Yes! I have bought a bike) and that has been better, because I have discovered a lot of small roads trought the countryside.
Today I have not done so much, I mean we have been discovering what was wrong during all day, so I have been reading papers and analysing data of my bachelor thesis. At the end of the afternoon we have discovered what was the problem so tomorrow it will be solved. I will learn how to mount and dissamble detectors!!
And this afternoon I have had another adventura, I went to Carrefour alone. I almost get lost, there were a lot of people, a lot of products, and I hadn't a shopping list, is the las time I go to a supermarket without a list. I have passed trough each corridor, even the one's wih dog food (I have never understood the organization in a supermarket). But finally I bought, and I think that only what I need, so another achieved mission.
At night I've cooked the dinner and it has been great, it was pasta, it seems easy but it is not a good idea to understimate any meal.
So, I have explained my first whole week, for the moment I'm delighted, I hope that it goes on in the same way.
